Jack Lionberger, LCSW (he/him)
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who earned my master’s degree from the University of Chicago, where I specialized in a program of study that focused on the newest forms of behavioral therapy.
I work with individuals, couples, families, and adolescents. I have significant and ongoing training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), both evidenced based practices.
My approach looks beyond diagnoses and explores the larger patterns and processes of behavior and thinking that get in the way of people’s lives and relationships. I believe that experiences like worry, sadness, anger, grief, conflict, pain, uncertainty, and more are the normal and natural outcomes of being alive, and often contain important information about what matters most to us.
Above all, I make it my mission to show up to every therapy session with empathy, authenticity, care, and humor.
Before becoming a therapist I worked in community mental health and as a special education teacher. In my personal life I enjoy simple pleasures like cooking, physical activity, good coffee, time with my dog, eating pizza, and beach days.
Services
Individuals
We all have challenges and struggles in our lives. Often this isn’t due to any particular character flaw, or some undiagnosed label, but is instead a natural and normal consequence of being human. Individual work can be a space to explore the values and patterns shaping our lives, and make potential changes, at your own pace.
Couples & Families
Often our most important relationships can be our most challenging. It can be very hard, and it’s also very normal. Couples or family sessions can be used as a space to explore and clarify the patterns shaping our most essential relationships, and potentially create new and stronger bonds.
Adolescents
No longer children, not quite adults; adolescence is a challenging and critical time period in most our lives. From being a high school special education teacher to working with young adults in community mental health, I have a 10+ year history of working with teenagers and enjoy the beauty and challenges that comes with this transition.
